In-depth Analysis
In the most recent round, both Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig enjoyed victories as they respectively defeated Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim. However, when looking at the current Bundesliga standings, the two sides are clearly in very different situations.
Werder Bremen currently sit 14th in the table with 28 points. They are only four points above St. Pauli, who occupy the relegation play-off position, and that is far from a safe cushion at this stage of the season. If they fail to improve quickly, the Weserstadion side could easily be dragged back into the relegation battle and even risk slipping into the bottom three.
This round presents another major challenge for Bremen, as they welcome a highly motivated Leipzig side that are desperate for points. The visitors are currently fourth with 50 points, level with Hoffenheim but ahead on goal difference (+20 compared to +18). With their place in the top four only secured by a narrow margin, Leipzig know they must keep winning in order to hold onto that position while also putting pressure on third-placed Stuttgart, who have 53 points.
Despite playing at home, Bremen have not looked particularly convincing on their own ground. In fact, they have won just one of their last eight home matches. That record hardly inspires confidence ahead of a meeting with a stronger and more ambitious opponent like Leipzig.
As for Leipzig, they have not been especially dominant on the road either, having won only four of their last 10 away games. Even so, their biggest advantage in this matchup lies in their excellent head-to-head record against Bremen. In the last 10 meetings between the two teams, Leipzig have remained unbeaten with four wins and six draws — a statistic that clearly underlines their upper hand.
Taking everything into account, Leipzig still appear to hold more advantages in this contest. Although their away form has not been outstanding, their superior quality, clearer objectives, and strong head-to-head record give the Saxony-based side every reason to believe they can secure another positive result, and possibly even all three points against Bremen.
